10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 10

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 10

Today is the final day of my 10 Day Photo Challenge set by my friend  Francisco Bravo Cabrera.

Yesterday’s photo showed some of the explorers on the Monument to the Discoveries at Belem, Lisbon.

The photo Challenge says that we have to choose one travel related picture a day without saying where it is, and although over the last 10 days I’ve chosen to include pictures from far and wide, I honestly believe that we don’t have to travel far to find something of beauty or interest, which is why today’s picture is much nearer to home.

Travel has always been in my blood, but I’ve only ever been able to travel when circumstances permit, and so I’ve always explored my own locality which is never as boring as we all think it is. During 2020 Covid-19 has forced people to get to know their own backyard a bit better, and that can only be a good thing. Somebody once said that “Life is what passes you by today while you’re planning for tomorrow” and it’s absolutely true, so until travelling to more exotic places becomes a reality again, it may be worth looking closer at what we all have around us. Thank you for following my 10 Day Challenge.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 9

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 9

Today is the penultimate day of my 10 Day Photo Challenge set by Francisco Bravo Cabrera.

Yesterday’s photo was taken at the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida which is ‘out of this world’ for anyone interested in space exploration.

The idea of the photo challenge is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is, and for today’s picture I’ve chosen one that shows a close-up of a monument that shows a bunch of ‘real’ travellers. People like these may not be held in such high esteem as they once were (by some people), but they were courageous, and the world would certainly be different to what it is now. Does anyone know where this monument is?

If anyone wants to take up the challenge it’s still not too late.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 8

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 8

Today is New Year’s Day and Day 8 of my 10 Day Photo Challenge set by Francisco Bravo Cabrera.

Yesterday’s picture was unmistakingly of Edinburgh Castle which usually hosts a grand Hogmanay spectacle, but thanks to Covid-19 the event didn’t take place this year. I didn’t take this picture at Hogmanay either, but during the Military Tattoo a few years ago.

Let’s hope that the year ahead is better than the one just gone, and here’s a picture which shows what humans can achieve when they have the will to. It’s another picture that I’ve scanned from my archive, so it’s more about the occasion rather than the quality of the photograph, and it shouldn’t be difficult to guess the location.

Don’t forget that anyone can join the challenge if they want to.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 7

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 7

I was invited by my good friend Francisco Bravo Cabrera to participate in the 10 Day Photo Challenge. The idea is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is. Today is Day 7 – and New Year’s Eve.

Yesterday’s picture was taken at Tallinn, the capital of Estonia. Of the three capital cities of the Baltic States, Tallinn has to be my favourite.

There shouldn’t be too much doubt about where today’s photo was taken. I have to confess that it wasn’t taken on New Years Eve, but with a lack of celebrations on offer this evening I thought at least we could take a look “For Auld Lang Syne”.

It also gives me the opportunity to wish everyone a Happy New Year and hopefully a much better one ahead. I think for the next month or so, life here in the UK is going to be tough, but there is light at the end of the tunnel and I’m convinced that things will start to improve as we move towards the spring. I hope it does wherever you are.

I’d also like to say a big thank you to those of you who have been putting up with my ramblings over the last year. It’s very much appreciated. Stay safe everyone and I hope you’ll join me for a virtual drink tonight to see this year out. Cheers!

P.S. If anyone wants to join the challenge, please let me know and I’ll be happy to nominate you.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 6

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 6

My good friend, Francisco Bravo Cabrera has invited me to participate in the 10 Day Photo Challenge. The idea is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is. Today is Day 6.

Yesterday’s picture was taken at a Masai village in Kenya many years ago. We were about to be taken into one of the mud houses to meet the village chief. One of the things I remember most was how a small boy was fascinated by my hairy legs and kept smoothing them.

If yesterday’s picture was taken in a hot country then the location of today’s photo is anything but – well not in wintertime at least. This one might not be too difficult to guess if you know your European capital cities.

It’s also suggested that we nominate others to join the challenge, but I’m not going to do that unless somebody wants to put their name forward, and then I’ll be more than happy to.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 5

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 5

My good friend, Francisco Bravo Cabrera has invited me to participate in the 10 Day Photo Challenge. The idea is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is. Today is Day 5.

Yesterday’s picture was of Bamburgh Castle in Northumberland, England. I did a post about it a while ago which you can read about here if you like the look of it.

Today’s picture is not a technically perfect one because I scanned it from a transparency that I took a long time ago, but it brings back memories of a place that was off the beaten track somewhat. No prizes for guessing which continent this is, but the people might give a clue as to which country.

It’s also suggested that we nominate others to join the challenge, and I’m pleased to say that Paul Smith, another good friend of mine, has indicated that he’d like to have a bash. I hope he does because he has some fantastic travel photographs stashed away.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 4

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 4

My good friend, Francisco Bravo Cabrera has invited me to participate in the 10 Day Photo Challenge. The idea is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is. Today is Day 4.

For anyone wondering where yesterday’s picture was taken, it was the Corsican coast near Bonifacio.

I don’t think I’m giving anything away by saying that today’s picture is of a castle next to a beach somewhere – but where?

It’s also suggested that we nominate others to join the challenge, but I can’t think of anybody who might want to. If anyone does, just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to nominate you.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 3

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 3

My good friend, Francisco Bravo Cabrera, has invited me to participate in the 10 Day Photo Challenge, and although it’s not something I would normally think of doing, I reckon we could all do with a bit of cheering up at the moment, and so I’ve accepted the challenge. The idea is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is.

I gave a small clue to yesterday’s photo when I said that the water feature’s shape might help you work out what country it was. If you take another look you might think the same as me (and others) that it looks a bit like the outline of Scotland – and that’s exactly where it is – but more precisely, it’s a view of Loch Garry in the Highlands.

Today’s photo is set in a warmer climate and shows a part of a European island’s coastline – but which island?

It’s also suggested that we nominate others to join the challenge, but I can’t think of anybody who might want to. If anyone does, just let me know and I’ll be more than happy to nominate you.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 2

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 2

My good friend, Francisco Bravo Cabrera, has invited me to participate in the 10 Day Photo Challenge, and although it’s not something I would normally think of doing, I reckon we could all do with a bit of cheering up at the moment, and so I’ve accepted the challenge. The idea is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is.

Francesc would have recognised the picture for Day 1 immediately, as it was the Hemisferic at the City of Arts and Sciences in Valencia, but he might not be so sure about this one because it’s a bit further north and a bit colder. If you look at the shape of the water feature in the picture, it might just give you a clue as to what country it is at least.

It’s also suggested that we nominate others to join the challenge, and I would have nominated Sarah Wilkie, but she’s already involved in the challenge. It’s stll worth taking a look at Sarah’s pages because, although she’s only recently started blogging on WordPress, she has travelled to far more places than I have, and is an exceptional photographer. She’s also written many pages about her experiences and tips for other travellers elsewhere.

10 Day Photo Challenge – Day 1

10 Day Photo Challenge - Day 1

My good friend, Francisco Bravo Cabrera, has invited me to participate in the 10 Day Photo Challenge, and although it’s not something I would normally think of doing, I reckon we could all do with a bit of cheering up at the moment, and so I’ve accepted the challenge.

Amongst other things, Francesc is an extremely talented artist, poet and musician, and I am humbled to think that he feels that my photographs are worthy of entry, although I’m sure the challenge is not all about expertise but more about inspiring people.

The idea is to post one travel related picture a day for ten days without saying where it is, and my first entry gives a nod to my nominator.

It’s also suggested that we nominate others to join the challenge, but not everyone wants to be included, and so I’m just going to nominate anybody who wants to have a go.
