Derbyshire
Derbyshire is part of the East Midlands area of England with an estimated population of just over a million in 2019. In the 2011 census the city of Derby had the largest number of people with 248,700 inhabitants, followed by Chesterfield (104,000). In contrast, Matlock, the county town had under 10,000.
The Derwent Valley is a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its industrial past, but the county on the whole is quite rural and includes much of the Peak District National Park, which has a varied natural beauty, popular with people who enjoy the great outdoors.
In the north of the county, the Pennines separate Manchester from South Yorkshire, and being part of the Peak District, attracts plenty of visitors from the adjacent urban areas.
