Teignbridge is the area between Exeter, Torbay, the South Hams and Dartmoor. In fact, a fair chunk of Dartmoor comes under the Teignbridge District Council authority, but apart from Ashburton and Buckfastleigh, places of interest will appear under my Dartmoor pages.
The estimated 2016 population of the area was around 130,000, with over 25,000 living in Newton Abbot, the home of the district council.
Other principal settlements include Teignmouth and Dawlish on the coast and Ashburton and Buckfastleigh on the fringes of Dartmoor. The rest of the district is mostly made up of rural communities.
The name comes from the River Teign which rises on Dartmoor and meets the sea between Teignmouth and Shaldon. The River Exe, which flows out to sea between Exmouth and Dawlish Warren is the border with East Devon,
