Apparently, there are somewhere between 24,000 and 30,000 islands in the Stockholm Archipelago. It depends of course on how big a lump of rock needs to be in order for it to be considered an island, but whichever way you look at it, there are lots. From the city centre, the archipelago extends eastwards for some 37 miles out to the Baltic Sea, where a myriad of islands then run in a north-south direction along the coastline, roughly between Arholma and Landsort.

Some of the islands are large, and some are tiny, but Stockholmers love them all – and that’s because they love the great outdoors. Every summer, many of them head out to these islands where they can live in harmony with nature before winter starts to close in again.
