The French Riviera in Pictures - Pt 1 Cannes and Antibes
As much as I like producing posts which gives some background information about a place I’ve been to, it’s impossible to write in-depth articles about everywhere, and sometimes it’s better to just put a gallery of images together rather than not produce a post at all.
The French Riviera is one of those places where a picture can paint a thousand words and I’m starting with the area around Cannes and Antibes. All these photographs were taken in 2005.
Below is a selection of images taken at Cannes, a town that I felt wasn’t really for me as it catered more for people who owned yachts and liked going to film festivals.
- Alles de la Liberté, Cannes
- Hand imprint of Johhny Hallyday outside the Palace of (Film) Festivals
- Croisette Beach
- The Majestic Barrière
- Luxury Yachts in Cannes Harbour
- Cannes Harbour during the Yachting Festival
- Cannes Lighthouse
- Cannes from the Sainte Margarite Ferry
Just outside the Bay of Cannes are the Iles de Lérins, and a ferry ride from Cannes out to Île Sainte-Margarite is a great way to spend a few relaxing hours away from the jet-set.
- Fort Royal on Ile St Margarite from the Ferry
- Approaching Ile St Margarite
- Restaurante L’Escale on Ile St Margarite
- Cannes from Ile St Margarite
- The view across the Bay on the other side of Cannes from Ile St Margarite
- Bird Hide at Etang du Bateguier
- View towards the Massif de L’Esterel from the return ferry
Antibes has bigger yachts and the Cap d’Antibes has bigger villas than Cannes, but we found the town much nicer than Cannes, especially around the Old Town.
- Port Vauban Marina, Antibes
- Billionaire’s Quai
- Fort Carre
- Plage de Gravette
- Le Vieil Antibes
- Rue de la Touraque
- Grimaldi Tower
- The Picasso Museum

Great!
You had me with that song Malc – that and Make It With You are two of my all time favourites. Great photos too, I particularly like the first one in the first gallery.
I thought the song would be appropriate for the post Eunice – and yes, Bread made some fabulous songs didn’t they?
