Blue Monday
If you’re feeling a bit down today, you might like to know that you’re not alone, because today is officially Blue Monday, the most depressing day of the year. Just so that you don’t get even more depressed by looking in the mirror after slobbing out over Christmas and the New Year, I thought I would cheer you up a bit by letting you know that, according to the Snake Oil Willie Band, you’re not the only one.

What a character! That’s enough to make anyone smile – well done, Malc! As it is Blue Monday wasn’t that blue for me – more of a purple hue, which is always good. Keep smiling. 😀

Thinking that Blue Monday was a specific UK holiday, I didn’t know that it could be any Monday after a weekend off. I liked the song as a lark although the original is a bit more “bluesey”. In the US, yesterday was Martin Luther King Day and this blog post was more upbeat after listening to depressing news about wars and the disappearance of democracy around the world. Stewart

U had not heard of Blue Monday till Monday. I got to say this is quite brill
I think the phrase was instigated by somebody in the travel business to motivate people into booking a holiday
That makes sense.
I took the day off and sat on the sofa with my cat watching movies all day.
That doesn’t sound like a Blue Monday to me.
We had sunshine for ‘Blue Monday’ so I actually felt happier than I did during all the grey damp days before, even though it was freezing cold (and still is today)!
The weather’s been good here too these last few days. Perhaps they should call it ‘Grey Monday’ instead.
Actually Malc, I had never heard of Blue Monday but surprise, surprise, today just happened to be one of our València gloomy days with no sunshine. I liked it but it could have made some of my valencianos blue… all the best my friend.

I don’t Eunice, but from what I can see, it looks as though one of your pets may have died. If it was the cat, I didn’t realise that you had one. If I’ve got that right, you have my deepest sympathies. Losing a pet is awful.
Mouse was one of two cats Malc, she was 13 and I’d had her since she was nine weeks old. A real character and my affectionate oddball little shadow – she became ill just after Christmas but nothing could be done for her – I nursed her right to the end and she died last Friday night. Needless to say I’m more than devastated.
I’m so sorry Eunice. Even though you have another cat and the dogs to look after, nothing will replace Mouse, but the memories will always be there ☹️

Unless I have a serious reason, as it was a case not long ago, I am never unhappy, no matter what the day of the week it is, and my middle name given to me by my room mates at the university was Sunshine, as I was always in good mood every morning.
That said, I love the song, and judging by the beauties around the singer, you can get anyone by making them laugh!

So far I have survived Blue Monday without too much trauma. Let’s hope things don’t get worse in the next few hours 😉😘

Cute song, Malc. We had a piss poor attempt at our first snowstorm in 2 years, with less than an inch of powder and a temperatures that crept below freezing before stalling out. Even the weather is half-assed and not doing any better than we are on Blue Monday. Perfect coincidence for how today is going.
