Edinburgh at Christmastime
Hogmanay in Edinburgh is world renowned, but Christmastime is pretty good too, and what’s more, by booking in advance, travel and accommodation costs are a fraction of the price that they are for the New Year celebrations.
The main Christmas market centres around East Princes Street Gardens and has everything you would expect – and more.
We enjoyed our visit here in 2015 so much that we’ve decided to come back again this year (2018).
Unfortunately, Virgin Money’s Street of Light hasn’t made another appearance since we saw it in 2015 (it probably cost them too much money), and so I’ve included some pictures for posterity.
The event took place each evening on the Royal Mile and consisted of 26 arches containing 60,000 lights stretching from the City Chambers to the Tron Kirk.

I know that you don’t write these expecting anything. That you are not that kind of a person comes right over. Ther’s a nice touch in your posts, a good balance between educational, personal and love of a place. And many of these places are not the big hot spots which is what I like re finding places to visit when we’re away. You give and bring a lot and personally when I see posts like this I want to let someone know how good that pos and or blog is.

I know. Hoping to see my cousin and his wife this Saturday. And our friends are coming from Edinburgh this week. We already had to postpone that one so here’s hoping……..
Very pretty! Like you I wonder about the environmental impact but can’t help loving the Christmassy atmosphere lights create 🙂

The Street of light is beautiful. They have a similar (though somewhat larger) display in Singapore – where money is no object!
I don’t suppose all these lights around the world are doing much for the environment, but I can’t help enjoying them all the same
What lot I missed in Edinburgh!
My sister married a Scot and we enjoyed our visits to the City – but then they went to Canada!
We went back a couple of times for Conferences but never had much time to explore. Thanks for filling in some of the gaps.
