Picture of the Day - 12
For the final image in this mini series of Picture of the Day I’m leaving you with a place that’s much nearer to home than most of the others I’ve included. The remains of the building in the foreground will give at least some of you a big clue because there are still plenty of these around, and are the remains of a once thriving industry in this part of the world.
To give you all a fighting chance of getting on the final score sheet I’ll give you 1 point for naming the county, 2 points for naming the once thriving industry and 3 points for the rough location of this scene.

My working knowledge of the SW corner of England suffers from unfamiarity. That said, I always learn something from your blogs, Malc. The beach in that area looks awsome.

I didn’t read any of the text. I know this mine pretty well. Overlooking Chapel Porth (if I have it right). Wheal Coates, North Cornwall. As children my sister and I used to drop stones down the shaft, waiting for the splash. My own children in turn did the same thing.
Spot on Stephen. Great views, interesting history and the Driftwood Spars not far away. What more could you ask for?
My sister had a holiday home in St Agnes for a while, so we know the area really well.
They are quite a compelling sight, aren’t they? I’m most familiar with the one Jude regularly features, near to St. Ives.
I really must do a post on Cornwall’s tin mining industry but I doubt it will interest too many people.
It will have a rich history. Most of the visible signs of mining in the north east have been tidied away. Just a few straggly pit villages.
I got Cornwall and tin mining but not the location. A nice photo, I like the streak of light shining right across the sea😊
