A Selection of Pubs around Dartmoor

I wouldn’t mind guessing that after reading the last few Dartmoor posts about the infamous prison you could do with a bit of light refreshment, and so I’m going to introduce you to some of the Dartmoor pubs I’ve enjoyed visiting over the years. They aren’t recommendations like a Trip Advisor review might be, but are included for all sorts of reasons – so sit back, pour yourself a drink and join me on a pub crawl around Dartmoor.

I’m going to ease you in gently with a convivial pub in the south-west corner of the moor at the Royal Oak, Meavy, which lies about 10 miles north-east of Plymouth close to Burrator Reservoir.

Broadsands to Elberry Cove and Churston

The further you go from Paignton seafront along the coast towards Brixham, the quieter it gets, and for many that’s the attraction.

You don’t need to belong to Mensa to work out where Broadsands gets its name from, and it’s the last major Paignton beach before reaching Brixham, but there’s still one more small beach at Elberry Cove before we reach the boundary, and in this post I’m going to describe the pleasant walk that links the two.

I’m also going to include an extension to Churston for those who want it. The village of Churston Ferrers, technically speaking, lies within the Brixham boundary, but to me it makes more sense to include it here.
