Picture of the Day - 6
Today’s picture should be easier than the previous one and shows some houses of an unusual design. The architect, Piet Blom, sees his creation as a village within a city where the houses are like trees in a forest.
The houses have been here for 40 years now and altogether there are 40 of these houses in total, which are located next to the Old Harbour area of this port city.
The nearby modern railway station has given the nickname to the buildings as the Blaak Forest.

I’ve seen photos of these buildings previously, although never visited them. They’re so distinctive, I recognised them immediately!
I don’t know if you’ve ever been to Rotterdam, but being a large port, it suffered heavy bomb damage during the war and they’ve rebuilt parts of it with some interesting architecture.
I’ve been there for football (Feyenoord v Newcastle in the Champions League, a famous victory for us!) but we were with a friend with a car and we stayed a bit out of the city on the coast so I didn’t get the chance to explore as we normally do on our football trips. Maybe another time!
What a picture. I can’t stop thinking re how these houses would look inside.
It’s possible to visit one of them, but unfortunaely not when I was there.
A good excuse to go back….

I also would like to see the interior continuing differently from what is expected of the house. You have to be congratulated, Malc, on getting better and better at finding places that make one think about them for a long time. Thank you! It is worth noting that the Netherlands is becoming known for creating interesting places and events.

Whether you would want to live in one is open to debate I reckon.

I can’t tell if the houses of standing on their sides or if it is the perspective on the photo. Very imaginative in either case. I would like to see the inside of one of them.
They are as you see them Pat and you can go inside one of them.
Will do that if I ever visit that are.

Reminds me of a place I went to in Keswick three years back, they have rooms where you can slide uphill, lean at crazy angles without falling over, make yourself grow and shrink, get drunk without touching a drop and stand/sit on the ceiling. It was a fun place and one I hope to go back to some time.
