Picture of the Day - 8
Today’s location sounds as though it ought to be in France but it’s not, although I’m sure there are some people who think it should be.
As the picture shows, the lighthouse can be reached by a causeway at low tide, and it’s the extreme tidal ranges that have caused numerous shipwrecks. There’s a memorial nearby commemorating the rescue of 307 passengers and crew from an inter-island ferry that struck a rock here in 1995.
There are also other landmarks dotted around the area that were part of the German defence of this and other islands that were occupied during WWII.

For some reason Sarah I was under the impression that your parents lived in Jersey.
How odd – no, in north west London! But I did have to go there to sort power of attorney because my mother’s bank had moved a small part of her savings to a fund based there. Maybe that’s what you’re thinking of?

I’ve never been to the Channel Islands so I wouldn’t have guessed this one even with the clue to the name. A great shot but those rocks look treacherous.

Stunning photo, Malc. I sort-of got it, as I’ve been to Jersey and thought I recognised it, especially with your clues. I just couldn’t remember exactly where it was. Didn’t know about the stricken ferry in 1995 though. That must have been a heck of a rescue.

Oh wow! You just HAVE to write a post on that! I flew to Jersey with my flying club once, and we had a wonderful time.
That was a good way to get there. My first visit was when I was young and we went by boat from Weymouth – in a horrific thunderstorm. It was terrifying!

Just like Pat, as soon as you wrote about Germans, I knew it had to be one of the Channel Islands, Malc. Thank you for the clue! Recently, I was told that there is one of the small islands there where only 64 people live! The history of this beautiful part of the world always fascinated me, and your choice today, Malc is greatly appreciated!

Once you mentioned the Germans, I knew it had to be one of the Channel Islands. Informative post, Malc. In the neither here nor there column, did you know that that are also Channel Islands off the coast of California? Catalina may be the most famous of them.
I did know of the Califonia Channel Islands Pat, not that I’ve ever been there, but well done for guessing where today’s pic was.
